R. Dennis Leighton, PT, DPT
Dennis is a part time physical therapist at the OA Physical Therapy Center. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree from Springfield College in 1979 and his Master of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina in 1980. He then followed with a Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Boston University in 1984 and his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine in 2004. Dennis has been licensed to practice physical therapy in Maine since 1984.
Dennis is a full time tenured Associate Professor at the University of New England, where he has taught in the Physical Therapy program since 1992. He also serves UNE as the Faculty Athletics Representative, being responsible for student-athlete academic compliance. Prior to teaching full-time, he worked in the area of orthopedic physical therapy in the Portland area, including three years at the OA Physical Therapy Center from 1989 to 1992. Dennis has had extensive training in manual therapy and functional exercise. His areas of interest are general orthopedics and sports medicine, and in particular injuries to the foot and ankle.
A native of Cumberland, a graduate of Greely High School, and a member of the 1974 State Class B Soccer Champions, Dennis and his family live in Scarborough.
