After graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1978, Chris worked in women's health care for four years before attending the Duke University Physician Associate Program. She graduated in 1984 and joined OA's Sports Medicine Center. Over the years, Chris has also worked in OA's Spine Center. She presently works with Dr. Douglas Brown, focusing on the management of acute knee injuries. Chris is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and is a member of AAPA and DEAPA.

Brian A. Lawhead, PA-C "Andy"
Before participating in the Physician Assistant program at King's College, Andy received his Bachelor's Degree in Health Science from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. Since graduation, he has worked in orthopedics and joined OA in 1996. Andy supports the physicians in our Trauma and Fracture Center, working primarily with Dr. White. Andy is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and is a member of AAPA, PAOS, and DEAPA.

Paul J. Evans, PA-C
Paul has been with OA since 1998. Paul supports our Trauma and Fracture Surgery Center, primarily assisting Dr. Babikian. He also assists Dr. Guay in the Spine Center. He has a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Iowa, and is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. He is also a member of the AAPA and PAOS.

Scott M. Benevides, PA-C
Scott earned his Physician Assistant degree from the University of New England in 2000. Prior to joining OA, he worked with general/vascular surgeons. He works in our Sports Medicine Center with Dr. Murray. Scott is a member of AAPA, PAOS, and DEAPA, and is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Brian L. Halla, PA-C
In 1987, Brian graduated from Duke University with a degree in Political Science. He then served in the US Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer and as a Middle East Specialist. Brian enrolled in the Physician Assistant program at the University of New England and graduated in 2002. Since joining OA in 2002, Brian has worked primarily with Dr. Eric Hoffman. Brian is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Cheryl S. DeGrandpre, PA-C
Cheryl graduated from the University of New England in 2002, with a Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies. She worked in emergency medicine prior to coming to OA. Cheryl initially worked in the Sports Medicine Center and now works with primarily with Dr. Camuso in the Trauma and Fracture Center. She loves all sports, and enjoys playing golf, cross country skiing, and spending time outdoors. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and is a member of AAPA, DEAPA, and PAOS. Cheryl is active on the Board of Directors for DEAPA.

Kristina E. Kramer, MMS, PA-C
Kristina earned her bachelors degree in Sports Medicine from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro (UNCG) in 2001. She attended UNCG on a full merit scholarship and served as an athletic trainer for 3 years. She obtained her Masters of Medical Science Degree from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2004. After completing her education, Kristina practiced dermatology in San Diego, California for two years before relocating to Maine to be near family. Kristina is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and as an athletic trainer through the National Athletic Trainers Association. She works with Dr. Asherman specializing in foot and ankle surgery.

Diana Brennan, PA-C
Diana attended the physician assistant program at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, graduating in 1985. After moving to Portland in 1986, she worked at OA with Dr. Omar Crothers for a number of years. She has returned to OA after a hiatus to raise her family, and now is working with Dr. Chance in the Hand Center. Diana is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and is a member of the AAPA and DEAPA.

Sarah C. Starbird, PA-C
Sarah graduated from the Duke University Physician Assistant Program in 1986. Since then, she has worked in hand surgery, family practice, and most recently in emergency medicine. She returns to hand surgery working primarily with Dr. Matthews and the Hand Center team. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and is a member of AAPA.

Denise Emple, PA-C
Denise graduated from Northeastern University's Physician Assistant program in 1991. She spent a year working with the General Surgery Department at Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain, MA prior to moving to Maine in 1992. She spent several years at OA working with Dr.'s Becker and Chance. After spending several years at home raising her 3 children, she returned to OA and now works with Dr. Brown in the Sport Medicine Center. Denise is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and is a member of the DEAPA and AAPA.

Cynthia J. Bolles, PA-C
Cindy graduated Cum Laude with an Exercise Health & Fitness/Education B.S. degree from Northeastern University. While at Northeastern, she trained with the national crew team and attended Olympic Development camps. She received her Physician Assistant degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1991. Since her graduation, Cindy has worked in general surgery, emergency medicine, orthopedics, and as a hospitalist. In addition to working part-time at OA, she keeps busy raising her five children, and is a competitive figure skating coach. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and is a member of AAPA.

Bernadette H. Shaw, PA-C
Bernadette graduated from Brown University with a degree in Human Biology. She coordinated clinical research trials at Massachusetts General Hospital in the Center for Women's Mental Health before obtaining a Master of Medical Science degree from Yale University. For the past three years she has worked as an orthopedic physician assistant in the Greater Portland area providing care to patients in sports medicine, trauma, total joint replacement, spine and pediatrics. She enjoys competing in local triathlons, windsurfing and skiing. Bernadette is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and is a member of AAPA and DEAPA.
