About Us

OA is the premier orthopedic practice in southern Maine. Our highly specialized orthopedic physicians are experienced in the latest orthopedic diagnostic techniques and treatment options available. As part of our commitment to quality, we have established within the practice integrated orthopedic specialty care centers for the treatment and diagnosis of foot, ankle, hand, shoulder, knee, hip, joint, back pain, and other orthopedic trauma, disease, and congenital conditions. OA specialty centers include Hand, Spine, Joint Replacement, Trauma and Fracture, Foot and Ankle, and Sports Medicine. Our orthopedic specialty centers are supported on-site in our MRI Center, Surgery Center, and Physical Therapy Center. Our experience allows us to utilize our detailed medical knowledge to diagnose and treat your orthopedic medical conditions and injuries quickly and cost-effectively. Whether you're an elite athlete with a serious injury or a writer with carpal tunnel pain, the OA team will help you return to an active lifestyle quickly and safely.

Founded in 1982, OA offers the best patient experience and comprehensive care under one roof. OA sees over 50,000 patients a year in our Portland, Maine center and supporting satellite centers in Windham, Yarmouth, and Scarborough. That means OA performs more orthopedic procedures than any other practice in Maine, including some of the most advanced procedures in the nation, such as minimally invasive anterolateral total hip surgery; the "24-hr Total Hip."

We understand that when you are injured or ill you want the best care available. OA is deeply committed to the best possible outcomes to improve our patients' quality of life. As athletes and weekend warriors ourselves, OA physicians, surgeons, and staff understand the drive and desire to get "back in the game" as quickly as possible - and we'll help you do it.

You have a choice. Fellowship trained... board certified... nationally recognized - that's OA. Experience in Motion... right here in Portland, Maine

Our Mission

Striving to Deliver Excellence in Orthopedic Care

Our Values

Service – Our primary focus is responding to the orthopedic needs of our patients. We treat them with respect and efficiency while attempting to meet the highest standards of service excellence. Our patients are partners in their orthopedic care. We support their choice of where to receive care. We believe satisfied patients are our most valuable asset and our best advertisement.

Quality – We are committed to the process of continuous quality improvement as a path to excellence. Quality in orthopedic care is defined by two primary factors: successful treatment outcome and high levels of patient satisfaction. We measure the quality of our care against established benchmarks of excellence. Our quality is enhanced through improvements in how we provide care that result in better treatment outcomes and enhanced patient satisfaction. We constantly strive to develop our medical and surgical skills.

Caring – Providing excellent orthopedic care is an opportunity to relieve suffering, improve function, and deliver the human element of caring. We support the concept that such excellent care will add to the quality of life. We are given great privilege in this process and we will respond with our most sincere efforts.

Employees – Excellent employees are our cornerstone. Each employee is an indispensable member of our team pursuing excellence in clinical care and customer service. We maintain a work environment that remains respectful, safe, positive, and nurturing of such performance. Employee excellence will be recognized. Professional growth by all employees is promoted.

Leadership – Physicians take a leadership role within this organization. They take personal responsibility for instilling an enthusiasm for excellence among our staff, patients, and professional peers.
