Dr. Matthews graduated from Amherst College and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. He served his residency in general surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, the teaching hospital of Columbia University, and his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the New York Orthopaedic Hospital of the New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where he was chief resident. Following his residency, Dr. Matthews completed a one-year, post-graduate fellowship in micro, hand and upper extremity surgery at the Hospital for Joint Diseases/New York University Hospital Center. Dr. Matthews is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He also has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery.
