After graduation from Dartmouth College (New Hampshire), Dr. Dexter received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his family practice residency at Maine Medical Center, following which he completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center (Minnesota). Dr. Dexter is board-certified in both family practice and sports medicine. He works at the Sports Medicine Center of Orthopaedic Associates on a part-time basis and is the Director of Sports Medicine and assistant director of the Family Practice Residency Program at Maine Medical Center. Dr. Dexter is very active in the American College of Sports Medicine as well as the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. Hi is on the faculty of the University of Vermont School of Medicine, serves as team physician for the University of Southern Maine Huskies, Portland Pirates (AHL) and Cheverus High School, and is on the Maine Governor's Council for Physical Fitness and Sports. He has published numerous book chapters and articles on different aspects of sports medicine and serves on several editorial boards of sports medicine journals. Dr. Dexter has more than a passing interest in rugby, having been a national team trialist; he now referees and is an avid skier, hiker, occasional duathlete and a hack golfer.
