MRI Center: Digital Imaging Services

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) provides detailed pictures of the inside of your body without the use of x-ray radiation or invasive techniques. MRI is performed in a strong magnet with radio waves directed at the area of interest. Your body responds with its own radio signals that are processed by a computer and converted into images. The exam is painless, and there are no known harmful effects (such as radiation exposure) from the MRI scan. The exam is performed by a select group of highly qualified and caring radiology technologists who have received specialized training in the Siemens magnet and in the requirements of our physicians to ensure quality standards.

Anxiety Free MRI Technology
The OA MRI Center in our Portland, Maine center uses a Siemens Harmony™ scanner with a short magnet that offers fast, efficient, quality scanning and minimizes the chances of claustrophobia. This system allows OA to provide a conventional MRI by offering a spacious, well-lit opening on both ends. The high-strength magnet allows for average exam times of 30-45 minutes. The very short length of the MRI scanner permits the patient's head to remain outside the magnet during a number of procedures.
